Notifications
Stay informed when syncs complete, fixes succeed or fail, anomalies are detected, or spend thresholds are breached.
CostLens automatically generates notifications when important events happen in your account — syncs complete, fixes succeed or fail, billing anomalies are detected, or spend thresholds are crossed. Notifications are visible to all members of your organisation.
Notification types
| Type | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Sync completed | A billing sync and analysis cycle finished successfully |
| Sync error | A sync or analysis task failed |
| New recommendations | New cost-saving opportunities were found after an analysis |
| Fix succeeded | An applied fix completed without errors |
| Fix failed | An applied fix encountered an error |
| Billing anomaly | Month-over-month spend spiked above your anomaly threshold |
| Spend threshold | Monthly spend crossed a configured budget alert threshold |
| Account added | A new AWS account was connected to the organisation |
Viewing notifications
The bell icon in the top navigation bar shows the count of unread notifications. Click it to open the notification panel. Each notification shows:
- A title and description of what happened
- A severity indicator — info, success, warning, or error
- How long ago it occurred
- A link to the affected resource (account, recommendation, or fix)
Marking as read
- Click any notification to mark it as read and navigate to the related resource.
- Click Mark all as read to clear the badge without opening each one.
- You can bulk-delete read notifications from the notification panel.
Customising your preferences
Each user can control which notifications they receive. Go to Settings → Notifications to:
- Enable or disable specific notification types
- Set a monthly spend threshold — you will be alerted when your AWS spend crosses this amount
- Adjust the billing anomaly sensitivity — the percentage increase that triggers a billing anomaly alert (default: 20%)
Preferences are per-user
Notification preferences apply only to your own account. Other members of the organisation manage their own preferences independently.
Billing anomaly detection
CostLens compares your current month's spend against the previous month's equivalent period. If the increase exceeds your anomaly threshold (default 20%), a billing anomaly notification is fired. This catches unexpected cost spikes early — before the bill arrives at the end of the month.
To adjust the sensitivity, go to Settings → Notifications and change the Billing anomaly threshold percentage.
