CostLensDashboard

Dashboard

Your organization's cost-optimization overview at a glance — spend, savings opportunities, and what needs attention across every connected account.

Updated August 20264 min read

The Dashboard is the first thing you see after signing in — a single-page summary of current spend, savings opportunities, and what needs attention, pulled from every connected account and refreshed on each sync. It's meant to answer "how are we doing?" in a glance; the full detail behind each number lives on its own dedicated page, linked from every card.

No accounts connected yet?

The Dashboard shows a "Connect your first account" empty state until at least one AWS, Azure, or GCP account finishes its first sync. See Getting Started.

Overview

Four headline KPI cards, pinned to the top of the page:

CardWhat it shows
Total Spend (MTD)Actual billed spend so far this month, with a projection to month-end and, if you've set one, how much of your budget that represents.
Potential SavingsThe combined monthly value of every open finding — pending, approved, or a failed apply — with an annualised projection.
Open IssuesCount of unresolved findings, broken down by severity (critical / high / medium / low).
Realized SavingsThe verified monthly run-rate from findings you've actually applied — CostLens-applied or customer-implemented alike — plus the cumulative total to date.

Below the KPI cards:

  • WoW / MoM / YoY — how this month's spend compares to the same period last week, month, and year. A drop (shown in green) is good.
  • Over-budget alert — appears only when month-to-date spend has crossed the budget you've configured for the org.
  • Quick wins banner — appears when there are low-effort, high-impact fixes ready to apply right now with no planning required, linking straight to the AI Action Plan.

Spend Analysis

  • Spend Trend — daily spend over a rolling window, plotted against your budget line and a forecast, with markers on days flagged as anomalous. Group it by total, account, service, or region.
  • Cost Anomalies — the last 30 days of daily spend, statistically compared against its own recent baseline. A day is flagged when it's more than 1.5 standard deviations above the mean of the visible window; hover a flagged day to see the service(s) most likely driving it.
  • What Changed — two stacked bars comparing the same elapsed-day window in each month (last month vs. month-to-date), broken down by service, so you can see exactly which services grew or shrank.
  • Cost Efficiency — a composite score summarizing how well your spend is optimized, paired alongside What Changed.
  • Top Services — Spend Distribution — your top 7 services by month-to-date spend, as a single stacked bar with an exact-percentage legend.

Optimization Health

PanelWhat it shows
Recommendation AgeHow long open findings have sat unactioned, in four bands: under 1 week, 1–4 weeks, 1–3 months, and over 3 months. Each band shows the finding count and combined monthly savings still sitting unclaimed.
Check CoverageWhich of CostLens's cost checks have run against your accounts, and when each last ran. A grey icon means a check hasn't run yet — not that it found nothing.
Commitment CoverageWhat percentage of your eligible EC2/Lambda compute spend is covered by Reserved Instances or Savings Plans. Coverage below 70% means you're paying on-demand rates for workloads that could be cheaper under a commitment.

Waste Inventory

Every open recommendation grouped into six categories — Idle & Unused, Rightsizing, Scheduling, Commitment Gaps, Storage, and Serverless Efficiency — so you can see where waste is concentrated instead of scanning one flat list. Click a tile to jump to Recommendations pre-filtered to that category. See How CostLens Detects Waste for the criteria behind each category.

Action Required

Three panels surfacing what's actually worth doing next:

  • Top Priority Actions — a preview of your AI Action Plan: the top-ranked open findings across every account, ordered by ease × impact × confidence, with conflicts deduplicated and prerequisites ordered first.
  • Top Savings Opportunities — the highest-value open findings, ranked by estimated monthly savings. See Recommendations.
  • Aevi Insights — AI-generated observations (cost drivers, anomalies, opportunities) worth a look, powered by Aevi. These are persisted snapshots that only regenerate when your underlying data changes, so viewing the Dashboard doesn't spend AI budget on every page load — use the refresh icon to force an immediate regeneration.

Savings Status & Tracking

  • Issues by Severity — a donut of open (pending) recommendations grouped by severity. Severity is classified on the canonical USD figure before any currency conversion: critical ≥ $500/mo, high ≥ $100, medium ≥ $20, low < $20. Dismissed and already-applied items aren't counted.
  • Savings Lifecycle — how identified savings move from discovery to realized value. A 5-stage funnel (Identified → Pending review → Approved → Applied → Dismissed, each measured against Identified as the 100% baseline) shows where things stall, alongside a capture-rate gauge (verified realized savings ÷ discoverable savings) and, once savings are realized, a break-even estimate for how long full optimization takes at your current pace.

Scope

Every card and chart on the Dashboard respects the account/provider scope selector at the top of the page — narrow it to a single account, a single cloud, or leave it on "All Accounts" to see your whole organization combined.
